Why is it Important to add Insulation?

According to ENERGY STAR, insulating and sealing the "envelop" of a residential home, such as roof, walls, ceiling, windows, doors, and floors, is often the most cost effective way to improve energy efficiency and comfort.

The United State Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) estimates that homeowners can typically save up to 20% of heating and cooling costs (or up to 10% of total energy costs) by air sealing their homes and adding insulation in attics, floors over crawl spaces, and accessible basement rim joists.

Adding home insulation qualifies for the Federal Tax Credit for 30% of the cost, up to $1,500 maximum per homeowner for all improvement combined.

For insulation to qualify, its primary purpose must be to insulate (example: insulated siding does not qualify). Additionally, the insulation must be "placed in service" by December 31, 2010 so act now!

Why Heat Pump Hot Water Heater?

In New York State heating water is likely the second largest use of energy in a typical home (after space heating.)

According to ENERGY STAR, heating water accounts for approximately 15 percent of a home’s energy use. High efficiency water heaters use 10 to 50 percent less energy than standard models, saving homeowners money on their utility bills. Actual energy savings depends on family size, heater location, and the size and placement of water pipes.

A Heat pump water heater is a hot water heating technology recognized by ENERGY STAR as capable of superior efficiency. Heat pumps transfer energy from the surrounding air to water in a storage tank and can be used in conjunction with existing natural gas or electric heaters.

Installing a heat pump water heater qualifies for the Federal Tax Credit for 30% of the cost, up to $1,500 maximum per homeowner for all improvement combined. To be eligible the heater must be "placed in service" by December 31, 2010 so act now!
